In May 2016, the Auditor General reported to the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development that “[…] the current approach to building design is based solely on historic data and does not take into account climate change trends.” and that the National Research Council should incorporate change trends into the National Building Code. That process has started by way of work at CSA and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Jerry is Chair of CSA S478 and responsible for converting the current Guideline of Durability in Buildings to a CSA Standard to be referenced by the 2020 National Building Code. He’ll present the outline of a white paper used to kick off the standard along with some existing predictive data on climate change and its limitations.
